Where did the time go?

Clearly I've been a bit busy these last two months- I haven't written a thing! But things are slowing down and I'm able to "catch up".

We've had 4 appointments now. The first one in September showed us you were in fact real, we saw your little heart and got so excited. The next one in October showed you moving around like a jumping bean. You had long legs, even for only being 13 weeks. You also had a personality already, sucking your thumb and kicking.

We went back in November and there was a tiny issue- but one that just required Mom to slow down a bit, you still looked great. We also found out in this appointment that you are a... GIRL! I hadn't bought anything yet because I wanted to wait to see what you might be but that week I went out and got you the cutest dress for next summer. I can't wait for you to fit in it.

This week marked your 21st week so we headed back to the doctor only to find out everything is perfect. You are growing right on schedule weighing about 14oz. Your brain looks good, your heart is a perfect little heart and all your other organs look great. Your legs are still super long, Dad thinks you're going to be a golfer, I say dancer but we'll let you decide.

I can't believe we are halfway through this pregnancy. I seems like yesterday I found out.
I broke down and got some maternity clothes a couple of weeks ago and boy am I comfy. I *may or may not* keep some even after you're born. ;)
You're loving cereal this month. I seriously eat 2 or 3 bowls a day but always a different kind. Dad makes fun of me because we have 5 different boxes open but you love them all!

I started feeling you move about a week ago and it was the strangest feeling. In fact, the day before our last doctor's visit you were doing something crazy and I couldn't figure it out. But while we were checking you out at the doctor we saw what you'd been doing the day before- spinning. Not rolling but spinning in circles like a ballerina.

I'm doing great, relaxing more if I can and not working so hard. All the students went home this week so the next four weeks should be pretty stress free. More time to catch up and rest when I need to.

Dad started a new job, he's still with the bank but moved downtown. He's learning but loving it. He is also itching for better weather so he can get back out on the golf course.

It's almost time for Christmas and everyone keeps asking what I want. I can't answer them because I can't really think of anything. All I want is for it to be NEXT Christmas so you will be here and we can play with you on Christmas morning!

Rest up kid, we've got about 19 more weeks to go!

Your likes and dislikes

How I found out

We'd been talking about the possibility of you off and one for a year or so. But I'm super picky and wanted to make sure you were born in a good month. I'm a January baby and sometimes my birthday tends to be "out shadowed" by Christmas or bad weather. Your dad's birthday is in a perfect time, the end of May, just when the weather is getting nice and people want to be outside. So I wanted to have you around then. But I also wasn't going to be picky forever, to me, this was the last month or so we could do that before I got too antsy.

In August two of my best friends and myself were so excited to take a trip of a lifetime. We packed up and headed to New York City, center of the universe.
We had an amazing time! We went to F.A.O. Schwarz, the most amazing toy and candy story. I wanted to buy you something SO bad but I didn't want to jinx  what I thought was going on. Now I'm just going to have to order something from their online catalog.
We did SO much, saw Wicked, visited Wall Street, the Today Show and took a boat ride by the Statue of Liberty at sunset.
It was beautiful. The whole time I was there though I just couldn't shake the feeling that something was different. I couldn't put my finger on it but I just knew something big was about to happen. The girls and I even joked that I could be pregnant.
The neatest part of the trip for me was visiting a small room in Times Square. Inside houses the centennial ball from the ball drop they do every New Year's Eve from Times Square. It was beautiful!
On a wall next to the ball was a collage of tissue paper. All different shapes and colors. When we got a closer look we realized they had wishes on them. It was a wishing wall. People could actually write their wish for 2012 on these pieces of "confetti" and all the wishes will be dropped with the ball this New Year's Eve.
Of course we had to partake. I'm sure you can only imagine what I wished for...
I kissed the paper and put it on the wall, not knowing if anything would come from it.
We went on our way and enjoyed the rest of the trip. It really was one of the best weekends of my life.
However, the day we were heading back there was only one thing on my mind, you!
As soon as I walked in the door I took a test like I have so many times before and expected nothing but hoped for everything.
I was completely taken aback when I saw what I saw! You were real!
The feeling I felt in NY was YOU!
I had to go straight to a work event and had to keep you all to myself (well, of course I told Boone and I'm sure he was VERY excited) for hours! After a few hours I couldn't stand it anymore and headed home to tell your dad.
It was hard but I managed to get through my whole trip and ask about his weekend before I told him. He laughed at me and asked why I didn't tell him about you first. I told him, if I had, he wouldn't even have asked about my trip!

So that was almost a month ago and here we are.
We go to the dr. for the first time next week. I am so nervous and excited and impatient all at once. I just want to hear your heartbeat, see you if I can. I want to know you are there and aren't going anywhere for awhile.
We are so excited to meet you Baby K!

Who are these so called "parents"?

Let me just start this by saying that once upon a time- your parents were cool.

It may be hard for you to believe down the road but your dad and I were awesome.

We met our senior year in college at a restaurant called Ruby Tuesday. Your dad was my waiter. I was there with Nana and she insisted on talking to him every time he came to the table, throughly humiliating me (something I can't wait to do to you). One thing led to another and a month later, we were dating.
After dating for three years your dad finally popped the question and we were married on October 10, 2009.
You're going to fit right in with us. Both of us are first borns and natural leaders. We are also a bit stubborn at times so I'm sure you'll get that trait. Your dad has the most beautiful eyes and intriguing smile.

Remember what I said about us being cool? Well your dad also happens to be in a rap group called Money n-tha Bank. Yep, they rap about his bank...

After college I worked as a local morning show anchor in the town I grew up in. It was a blast.

But getting up at 3 in the morning got old (well I guess I'll have good practice for you) so I started working for the best school ever- MIZZOU! Now I work with students everyday, planing events and fun times for all the students at Mizzou.

It's a blast, and sometimes a bit scary.

You have an awesome "brother".
His name is Boone and he rocks.

So there is just a little bit about your family. You have SO many more it's not even funny but there is plenty of time to tell you all about them.

A letter to Baby K

Dear Baby K,

They say a baby changes everything, I never knew a truer statement. You've come at the exact perfect moment in so many people's lives. I can't wait to tell you all about the family you are joining, the city you will grow up in, the teams you'll root for (and some you better not!) and the life you will have.

I've known about you for a little under a month now and wow- what a month it's been. There's been some very sad times (we will talk all about your Grandpa Gary), some very happy times (I hope you love NYC as much as me) and some very sick times (you're worth it).

This blog will keep track of everything so someday you can read all about what life was like while we were waiting for you.

These next seven months feel like they will take forever but don't worry, I'm sure you'll be here faster than I think.

Rest up little baby K, a whole lot of love is waiting for you...

Love,

(saying it for the first time)

Your Mommy.
